Silk Wash & Care Guide

Mulberry silk is an incredibly wonderful, luxurious material that has a beautiful luster. And it can last for many years if properly cared for.

How To Hand Wash Silk

Handwashing is the gentlest way to clean and preserve the integrity of silk.

1. Fill a basin with <= lukewarm water 30℃/86°F.

Lukewarm water <= 30°C/86°F is the ideal temperature for silk to be hand-washed.

2. Add a few drops of special detergent for the silk items.

We recommend using professional real silk detergent. Wash after the detergent is fully dissolved.

3. Let the garment soak for three minutes.

Submerge the item and leave it to soak for three minutes.

4. Agitate the item around in the water.

Gently agitate the water with your hand to wash out any dirt or residue, and avoid rubbing the item.

5. Rinse the silk item <= lukewarm water 30℃/86°F.

Take the item out of soap water and rinse under clean cool water till it runs clear, all the soap suds have been washed out.

6. Use a towel to soak up water after the wash.

Use a clean white towel to absorb excess water from your silk item, avoid rubbing or wringing.

7. Hang item or lay flat to dry.

Hang dry or lay the silk garment out flat on a drying rack. The silk should be dried in the shade, and avoid direct sunlight exposure.

How to Wash Silk in a Washing Machine

When washing in the machine, we recommend a mesh bag to protect your delicate items and remove silks promptly after the cycle is complete.

1. Check the fabric care label.

Before putting the silk item in the machine, check the tag to see if it can be machine-washed.

2. Sort the laundry.

Wash different colors and fabrics separately.

3. Use a protective mesh bag.

Put the silk item inside a protective mesh bag.

4. Add the proper amount of special detergent for silk to the machine.

We recommend using professional real silk detergent. And please follow the instruction on the bottle.

5. Start a delicate cycle.

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Most of washing machines should have a delicate setting or a silk setting.

6. Minimize the spin time.

Spinning can be very dangerous for silk fabric as the forces involved can shear weaker silk fibers.

7. Use a towel to soak up water after the wash.

Take the item out of the machine and Use a clean white towel to absorb excess water. Do not tumble dry.

8. Hang item or lay flat to dry.

How To Iron Silk

It’s best to iron your silk right after you’ve washed it. Wait until the item is air until 70% dry but still slightly damp. Turn the silk item inside out to protect the silk. Use a white press cloth between your garment and the iron’s plate. Ironing with a uniform mist spray with water, and the temperature is controlled below 110 °C (230°F) for steam ironing. A lot of modern irons come with special fabric settings—if your iron has this, set it to the “silk” setting instead. Never use high-temperature or dry ironing.

Proper Storage Techniques for Silk item

Make sure the garment is fully cleaned and dried before storage. Preferably wrap it in cloth, do not cover it in plastic, as a natural fiber, it needs to breathe. Store the garment in a cool, dry, and dark place. It is not advisable to place mothballs or sanitary balls in the cabinet.
